What is cystic fibrosis?
Cystic fibrosis (CF) is a genetic condition that affects how salt and water move across cell walls. In the lungs this makes mucus thick and sticky, so it traps bacteria and is hard to clear. The result is repeated chest infections and inflammation over time.
How respiratory physiotherapy helps
- Teaching and refreshing airway clearance techniques as you grow and your needs change.
- Reviewing and fitting PEP and oscillating PEP devices.
- Exercise programs to support lung health, fitness and bone health.
- Extra clearance support during chest infections or after hospital admissions.
- Posture and musculoskeletal care, which is often overlooked in CF.
We are happy to communicate with your CF team so your community care matches your hospital plan.
